Cave Creek Cavern
Fairplay, Colorado
Cave
Cave Creek Cavern, located in the Pike National Forest southwest of Fairplay, Colorado, represents a significant, unique, and non-renewable natural resource. It is perhaps the only cave of its type in Colorado, having developed along the contact between the Leadville Formation dolomite and the Pando Porphyry, and exhibits evidence of both sulfuric acid solution and mechanical erosion. The single largest cave room in Colorado is located in Cave Creek Cavern, providing it a singular status among the ranks of the state's karst resources.
