Hot Springs
Hot Lake Springs is a historic hot-springs resort in the Grande Ronde Valley near La Grande in northeastern Oregon, built around a steaming geothermal lake that Native peoples and later pioneers on the Oregon Trail long used as a place of healing and rest. Anchored by a grand brick lodge dating to 1906 — once a renowned health sanatorium and later a famously abandoned “haunted” landmark — the property has been lovingly restored and today welcomes both overnight guests and day visitors.
The centerpiece is the naturally heated mineral water, and the resort offers a collection of outdoor mineral soaking pools where you can relax in the warm, geothermal water with valley and mountain views. Beyond soaking, the beautifully restored lodge houses guest rooms, a pub and eatery, a small movie theater, and museum-like displays of the property's rich and colorful history, making it as much a heritage destination as a place to unwind.
Note that this is a resort, not a free natural spring. Public day-use soaking is available, but it typically requires a reservation and a fee during posted hours (overnight guests enjoy broader access), so plan ahead and book before you arrive rather than showing up expecting a casual dip. Check the resort's current hours, rates, and reservation policy directly.
Come to soak, stay the night, grab a bite, or simply tour a remarkable piece of Oregon history. Respect that it's private property with its own rules, and enjoy one of the most atmospheric hot-springs experiences in the Pacific Northwest.

Be careful. Pay attention to posted signs and always test the waters before you get in. Some hot springs can get up to boiling temperatures. Be sure to drink plenty of water to combat the dehydrating effect of the spring.
Be respectful of other soakers and the hot spring. Don't hog the pool. Camp at least 200 yards away and keep fires in designated areas. Keep your pets out of the water and never pee in thermal feature. Glass bottles should never go near a hot spring.
