Disc Golf

Kiwanis Park is Lufkin's disc golf home, an 18-hole course laid out in a city park in the heart of the East Texas Piney Woods. It's the kind of course that does exactly what a good municipal layout should: free to play, easy to find, welcoming to beginners, and interesting enough to keep locals coming back for a lunchtime round. With a difficulty that lands in the easy-to-moderate range, it's an excellent place to learn the game or to introduce someone to it without handing them a humbling afternoon.

A typical round runs about an hour and covers roughly a mile of walking, which makes it a manageable outing rather than a commitment. That compact footprint is part of the appeal: you can play a full 18 on a whim, and the walking between holes stays short. The course carries an average rating of about 3.5 out of 5 across more than 240 community reviews, a solid mark for a free city course and a fair reflection of what it is, an honest, pleasant, well-used local layout.

The amenities are better than many courses manage. Kiwanis Park offers restrooms and drinking water on site, cart-friendly paths for players hauling a bag cart, and it's pet-friendly, so the dog can come along for the round. Combined with the shade of the East Texas pines and hardwoods, it adds up to a comfortable place to spend a couple of hours.

You'll find the course in Lufkin, in Angelina County, at roughly 31.3229 north, -94.7250 west, within the city's parks system. There's no fee, no reservation and no check-in; you show up and throw. As a public park it also carries the usual mix of other users, walkers, families and kids on the playground, so keeping an eye out before letting a drive go is basic courtesy on the more open holes.

East Texas weather sets the rhythm. Spring and fall are the sweet spot, while summer in the Piney Woods brings serious heat and humidity, making early mornings and late afternoons far more pleasant, and afternoon thunderstorms roll through regularly in the warm months. The pines offer decent shade on much of the course, but hydration still matters more here than the mileage suggests.

Bring plenty of water, bug spray for the wooded holes, sun cover for the open ones, and a couple of spare discs. For anyone in the Lufkin and Nacogdoches area looking for a free round, or a traveler passing through deep East Texas with a bag in the trunk, Kiwanis Park is a genuinely good, no-fuss place to play.

Kiwanis Park - Lufkin, Texas | UDisc Disc Golf Course Directory

Located in a quiet community park, Kiwanis offers a relaxed 9-hole layout perfect for beginners and casual players. The course winds through mature trees with a few light water hazards, favoring accuracy and line shaping over distance. Most holes play under 300 feet, making it great for putter and midrange practice. While the dirt tees and worn baskets show some age, the shaded fairways and peaceful setting make this a pleasant spot for a quick round or introducing new players to the game.
