The disc golf is a pleasant bonus rather than a destination course, folded into a park built for variety: pack in the family for a day of disc golf, horseshoes and volleyball, then settle in around a campfire for the night. That mix is exactly the appeal of the place.

Southern Oregon's Illinois Valley runs warm and dry in summer, which is prime season for the water, while spring and fall bring green hills and fewer people. As a warm, shallow reservoir, the lake can develop algae in the heat of late summer, so it's worth noting posted conditions before swimming.
