Needles Skate Park is a free, public skatepark in the Colorado River town of Needles, California, tucked near Jack Smith Memorial Park on the riverfront. Wide open and built for flow, it gives local skaters, BMX riders, and scooter kids a real place to session in this far corner of the Mojave.
The park has a special bit of history: it was built with help from a grant from the Tony Hawk Foundation (now The Skatepark Project), part of the foundation's mission to bring quality free skateparks to smaller communities — and Tony Hawk himself skated the park at its grand opening. That pedigree shows in a layout with room to move and lines to link together.
Being right along the Colorado River, Needles is one of the hottest towns in the country in summer, so the smart play is an early-morning or evening session once the concrete cools. It's a welcome stop for skaters road-tripping historic Route 66 or crossing between California, Arizona, and Nevada.
Bring plenty of water, sun protection, and a helmet and pads. The park is free and open to the public year-round — just plan around the desert heat.
