Canoe, Hike, Kayak, and Swim

Regatta Park, also called Regatta Grounds Park, is a City of Lincoln City park on the southwest shore of Devils Lake, the 680-acre freshwater lake that sits just inland from the beach on the north end of town. The Devils Lake Water Improvement District lists only two public swimming areas on the whole lake, and this is one of them (the other is Sand Point Park). The park is a long grassy slope that runs down from NE 14th Street to a dock, a boat ramp and the swim area at the water's edge.

The park address is 2700 NE 14th Street. From Highway 101, turn east on NE 14th Street and go about half a mile to the Regatta Park sign on the right. A one-way loop road runs through the park, with a small paved lot near the dock and more parking along the loop. Parking is free, and the restrooms by the waterfront have flush toilets. Anglers fish from the same dock, so expect to share the shoreline on busy weekends.

The swim area is a small protected section of water next to the dock, close to the playground and picnic lawn, which makes it a common stop for families. Devils Lake is shallow overall, about 8 feet on average and roughly 21 feet at its deepest, so it warms up more than the ocean a few blocks away, though it still feels cool early in the summer. Wind often comes up in the afternoon and chops up the surface. No lifeguard service is listed by the city or the water district, so children need someone watching them. There is no entry fee. Lincoln City's municipal code limits park use to daylight hours between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m.

Water quality is the main thing to check before you go. The water district tests the lake weekly from Memorial Day to Labor Day and posts the reports online. The Oregon Health Authority puts Devils Lake on precaution status during blooms, and toxin levels that are safe for people can still harm pets, so keep dogs out of the water and do not let them drink it. Stay out of any water that looks scummy, foamy, bright green or paint-thick, and avoid eating fish caught near a bloom. Advisory signs go up at the public access points, including this one, when conditions change.

Boats launch from the ramp right beside the swim area, and the lake allows waterskiing and wakeboarding, so stay inside the swim zone. In October the park is the main viewing spot for the Devils Lake hydroplane time trials. On land there is a large wooden playground known as the Sandcastle, a covered picnic shelter, barbecue grills, the Morgan Family Stage built in 2017, a steel sculpture called Sparky the Wish Guardian, and a short trail into the adjoining Regatta Open Space past a Sitka spruce estimated at 400 years old. Kayaks and paddleboards can put in at the ramp.
