Skateboard

On Alaska's Kenai Peninsula, the Soldotna Skatepark — officially the Karen Street Bike/Skate Park — is a free, city-run spot that gives local skaters and BMX riders a place to session close to the Kenai River. Designed and built by the City of Soldotna, it's an all-metal park, which is a real advantage this far north: the surface shrugs off rain, so a passing shower doesn't wash out your session.

The layout centers on a back-and-forth run built around a movable funbox, with quarter pipes ranging from about 4 to 7 feet on each end and banks along the sides — a compact, approachable setup that's friendly to beginners while still offering enough transition to keep intermediate riders working on lines. Restrooms are available on site.

You'll find it at 245 Karen Street in Soldotna, part of the city's public parks system and free for everyone to use. It makes an easy stop while exploring the Kenai, whether you're in town for the world-famous salmon fishing or road-tripping the peninsula.

Bring a helmet and pads. Alaska's long summer daylight means you can skate late into the evening — just watch for the occasional wet spot and enjoy one of the northernmost skateparks around.

More Information

Karen Street Bike/Skate Park

Karen Street Park is composed of several parcels purchased or obtained by the City of Soldotna for recreational use. At one time (1999-2003) there was a sledding hill at this location. In 2000, a paved, fenced skate park was designed and constructed. The City of Soldotna hosts a popular annual competition at the skate park. Skate park ramps and boxes are heavily used by BMX bikes and scooters. A BMX track was designed and constructed in 2012-2013.
