Summer Lake Hot Springs is a rustic, off-the-grid hot-springs resort in Oregon's remote Outback country, set on the high desert about six miles west of Paisley along Highway 31, roughly two hours south of Bend. With ancient artesian mineral water, sweeping 360-degree views of desert and forest, and some of the darkest, clearest night skies in the state, it's a soothing, unplugged oasis in one of Oregon's emptiest corners.

The soaking is the draw. A historic bathhouse originally built in 1929 shelters a large indoor mineral pool (around 98°F, roughly 15 by 30 feet), while three rock-lined outdoor pools average about 104°F and are perfectly placed to soak in desert sunsets and brilliant starry nights. A wildlife pond and nature trails round out the peaceful setting.

Accommodations range from geothermally heated cabins and guest houses to full-hookup RV sites and a five-acre dry camping field, so you can pick your level of comfort under the big desert sky.

Important: this is a private resort and does not offer day use — a reservation and an overnight stay are required to access the soaking pools.
