The Floating Pool Lady is a one-of-a-kind swimming destination in New York City — a full-size public swimming pool built onto a barge that floats right on the water. Moored at Barretto Point Park in the Hunts Point neighborhood of the Bronx, it's the only floating pool in the United States, and a beloved, free summer oasis for New Yorkers looking to beat the heat with a river view.
The 20,000-square-foot vessel holds a 25-meter outdoor pool along with a pool house, locker rooms with showers, restrooms, and a children's spray shower, plus a small amphitheater on deck. Don't worry about the river water — the pool itself is filled with clean, chlorine-treated water, so you get a proper swim with the novelty of being afloat. The concept is a charming revival of NYC history: a century ago the city had more than a dozen “floating baths” moored along the East and Hudson rivers so tenement residents could bathe and learn to swim.
