Mountain Bike

Amelia Earhart Park is a sprawling 515-acre urban park just north of Hialeah in Miami-Dade County, Florida, and its mountain-biking trail system has become one of South Florida's most popular places to ride. Welcoming and well-designed, it's a great introduction to Miami-area mountain biking and a fun, fast spin for experienced riders too.

The trail network — often called Amelia Trails — is a roughly 7.75-mile cross-country-style system of mostly smooth, flowing singletrack winding through tunnels of green deadfall and underbrush. It's known for being fast and not overly technical, with hidden climbs, quick downhills, and banked corners keeping things interesting, plus small technical sections and minor hills mixed in. Notably, the trails are built to be fully adaptive: features that add difficulty have bypasses, so novices and more advanced riders can share the same routes. It's generally considered easier than nearby Oleta or Markham, making it a perfect place to learn.

The park itself is packed with amenities, including a dog park, a watersports complex, soccer fields, and picnic pavilions, and on-site bike rentals are available on weekends for those who want to try the trails without their own gear. There's free admission for cyclists riding in, with a modest vehicle fee on weekends and holidays.

As always on natural-surface trails, check conditions before you ride (Florida trails can close when wet), bring plenty of water for the heat and humidity, watch for other users, and pack out your trash. For accessible, enjoyable riding in the heart of Miami-Dade, Amelia Earhart Park is a standout.

Never modify trail features. Ride trails when they're dry enough that you won't leave ruts. Speak up when you see others on the trail and always yield to hikers, horses, and others coming uphill. Always ride on the established trail.
