Disc Golf and Mountain Bike
West Delray Regional Park is a 313-acre Palm Beach County park west of Delray Beach, Florida, reclaimed from former farmland into one of the more unusual multi-use recreation areas in South Florida. It packs together an 18-hole championship disc golf course and a 9-hole beginner course, about seven miles of mountain-bike singletrack, and a cluster of radio-control hobby facilities, including a car track, an airplane runway and a helicopter pad, all on the same site.
The disc golf uses the park's natural cover: fairways thread between trees and around ponds and drainage canals, so accuracy matters and errant discs have a way of finding the water. It is a low, flat, sometimes overgrown course where much of the challenge comes from the setting rather than elevation. Bring bug spray, watch for snakes and alligators near the water, and do not wade in after a lost disc, because the canals are genuine gator habitat.
The mountain-bike trails are a real surprise for pancake-flat Florida: a roughly five-mile intermediate-to-advanced singletrack loop packed with hand-built features such as jumps, berms, rock gardens, log-overs and root staircases, all winding through a shady, jungly tree canopy that local riders have built and maintained over the years. The trails ride best in the dry season and can be buggy and soft after summer rain.
The park is free and open to the public. Its combination of disc golf, technical mountain biking and RC racing in one place makes it a regional draw well beyond Delray Beach, though the far corners are less manicured, so a course map helps first-timers navigate between holes and trail junctions.
