Lake Antoine Park

Lake Antoine Park is a 51-acre county park run by Dickinson County on the east shore of Lake Antoine, a 748-acre lake a few miles northeast of downtown Iron Mountain in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The lake takes its name from Antoine Le Beau, a French fur trader who settled on its shore. The park has a sandy public swimming beach, a 90-site campground, two rentable pavilions and a boat launch, and a volunteer nonprofit, Lake Antoine Park Partners, has spent the last several years rebuilding much of it with the county.
The park address is N3393 Quinnesec Lake Antoine Road. From US-2 in Iron Mountain, head north on Lake Antoine Road and follow it around to the park entrance on the east side of the lake. There is parking inside the park near the beach and picnic grounds, plus a lot by the boat launch at the north end. A paved bike path also runs past the park, so it's an easy ride from town. The swim beach is the strip of sand along the shoreline in front of the old 1950s beach house.
The beach was rebuilt a few years ago with a ramp down to a Mobi-Mat that lets wheelchairs roll right to the water's edge, and in 2024 the frontage in front of the beach house was redone with a concrete walkway, accessible picnic pads and a sunset viewing area facing west across the lake. Swimming is in a designated area, and boats of any kind are banned inside it. There are no lifeguards. A county commissioner asked the board in June 2026 to look into a limited weekend and holiday lifeguard pilot for 2027, so for now you swim at your own risk and should keep a close eye on kids. The county doesn't publish depth or water temperature figures for the swim area.
Day use of the beach is free. Dickinson County lists no entry or parking charge for the park, and the fees it does publish are for camping ($39 per night in 2026 for residents and nonresidents alike) and for the two 64 by 30 foot pavilions ($75 per day, $25 of which is a refundable cleanup deposit). Under the county park ordinance, nobody except registered campers may be on the beach, the picnic area or in the campground between 10 p.m. and 8 a.m., and non-camper vehicles have to be out by 10 p.m. Glass containers are banned on the beach. Dogs on leash are allowed in the park, but they are only allowed on the beach before 9 a.m.
Geese are the main nuisance here. The same 2026 request to the county board flagged goose impacts and parasite concerns at the beach and called for a non-lethal approach to controlling the birds. Swimmer's itch is a known risk on lakes with lots of waterfowl, so towel off well after you get out. Check for any posted notices at the beach house before swimming, especially after hot spells or heavy rain.
Besides swimming, people fish Lake Antoine for northern pike, perch, crappie and bass, launch boats and kayaks from the ramp, and fill water jugs at the free artesian well across from the boat landing. The campground opens Memorial Day weekend. Lake Antoine Park Partners runs events through the year, including a fall craft and flea market, a kite festival on the ice in winter, and Lights at the Lake, a free drive-through holiday display in the campground from Thanksgiving to New Year's.
