Skateboard

Weed Skate Park is an excellent concrete park in the small mountain town of Weed, California, at the foot of Mount Shasta in the state's far north. With a knockout view of Shasta's snowy peak as a backdrop, this roughly 8,000-square-foot park is a scenic and genuinely fun place to skate along the I-5 corridor.

Designed and built by the respected Grindline Skateparks and opened in September 2006, the park offers something for everyone — bowls, rails, and plenty of spots to grind. Its centerpiece is one large bowl ringed almost entirely with coping (save for a roll-in), while smooth cement and well-shaped transitions connect a variety of banked turns from small to large as you cruise the park. A rail and several good lips round out the grind options.

Set in Charlie Byrd Park — a seven-acre city park with basketball courts, picnic areas, and a playground — it's a free public facility and an easy, worthwhile break for road-trippers heading up or down I-5. As always, gear up with a helmet and pads, be courteous and take turns, bring water, and check for posted hours. Great terrain and an unbeatable mountain view make Weed a memorable stop.
