Camp and Swim
Bradbury Beach is one of the prettiest and most accessible swimming spots on Lake Roosevelt, the vast reservoir of the upper Columbia River that stretches behind Grand Coulee Dam through northeastern Washington. Part of the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area and located just off Highway 25 near Kettle Falls, it's a mellow, family-friendly beach that's rarely crowded even on summer weekends.
The swimming is the draw. A crescent of sand fronts a grassy area dotted with picnic tables and grills, and a large swimming area — complete with a central floating dock — is buoyed off for safe splashing and lounging. Because this is a slower, warmer arm of the reservoir, the water tends to be more comfortable than the cold main channel, perfect for an easy afternoon swim.
It's a true do-it-all water-access spot: along with the beach, you'll find a paved boat ramp, a boat dock, and generous parking for cars, trailers, and RVs, plus a year-round vault toilet. That makes it equally good for a quick swim, a day of boating, or a paddle along the shore.
Summer is prime, when the water has warmed and the days are long. As with any reservoir, lake levels rise and fall through the season, so be mindful of depth and footing, keep a close eye on children, and never swim alone. Bring water, sun protection, and a picnic, pack out your trash, and enjoy one of the Kettle Falls area's most relaxing places to cool off on the big lake.
