Hike
Clay Mine Trail is a 1.6 mile out-and-back, beginner friendly trail in Cave Creek Regional Park.
This is a trail that is very close to the Visitor Center. It's not too difficult but there is quite a few easy elevation changes. The hike itself is quite nice on a well used trail. Be aware that the first 1/4 mile (starting from the Overton Trail) is the main path used by the horse rental facility, so there are a lot of horses on that stretch of the trail.
At the end of the trail you are rewarded with an interesting mine entrance, which is the Clay Mine. The mine is closed off, however, the park does have ranger-led tours on various dates.
This is a great option for families with children, or other beginners looking for a short, easy, but adventurous hike.
