The City of Santa Cruz's celebrated public skatepark — long known informally as the “Fun Spot” and officially the Ken Wormhoudt Skate Park at Mike Fox Park — is one of California's classic concrete destinations. Designed by hometown legend Zach Wormhoudt, it's a sculptural, flowing park that skaters rank among the best on the coast.
The signature feature is a 17-foot full pipe, paired with a cradle set into an 8-foot bowl — serious transition terrain for confident riders — alongside a mix of additional bowls, rails, and street features that give the whole park an artful, connected flow. It's a favorite of both skateboarders and roller skaters.
The park sits at Mike Fox Park near San Lorenzo Boulevard and the river, and is generally open daily from morning until early evening. It's free to skate; helmets are the rule, and police do enforce them.
Bring your pads and a helmet, and treat the transitions with respect — that full pipe is no joke. It's an easy add-on to a day exploring the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and waterfront just nearby.
