Leigh's Mill Pond (also known as Great Works Pond) is an impoundment of the Great Works River in South Berwick, Maine, just above where it meets the Salmon Falls River. For years it was a popular local swimming and fishing spot, with clear, cool summer water.
Today, however, it is not open for swimming. The pond sits on private property off Vine Street and is heavily posted against trespassing, and public access was closed until further notice in 2020 following problems with illegal activity and trail damage. It also carries a tragic safety record: several people have drowned here over the years, most while trying to reach a rock island roughly a thousand feet from shore. Please respect the posted closure and stay out.
