Hike and Mountain Bike
The bottom end of Avery Creek can be accessed via FS 477, and the top can be accessed via the Buckwheat Knob trail, the Black Mountain trail, or the Club Gap trail. Avery Creek descends for 3.2 miles from that 4-way junction down to FS 477 via some technical, rutted out singletrack--classic Pisgah style. Keeping with classic Pisgah style, there are several stream crossings and plenty of muck thrown in, but there are a few sections of smooth, somewhat flowy trail hidden underneath the massive tree canopy of Pisgah National Forest.
