Camp and Swim

Blue Hole Park is one of Oklahoma's most beloved summer swimming holes — a clear, cold, spring-fed pool tucked into the green Ozark foothills near Salina, in the northeastern corner of the state. Fed by natural springs, the water stays refreshingly cool even in the heat of an Oklahoma August, making it a favorite family destination for generations of swimmers, waders, and crawfish-catching kids.

The swimming hole is the star: a large, clear pool with plenty of shallow water that's perfect for young swimmers, ringed by shade trees and alive with wildlife. Kids love hunting for crawfish in the clear shallows, while the cool, spring-fed water is a welcome escape on a scorching day. It's an old-fashioned, wholesome creek-swimming experience that's become an annual tradition for many Oklahoma families.

A few things to know before you go: Blue Hole Park is privately owned and open seasonally, generally from the Saturday before Memorial Day through Labor Day, with daytime hours (typically around 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.). There's an admission fee — about $15 per carload to swim, cash only — and camping is available for an additional nightly fee, first come, first served. On-site you'll find a concession stand, flush restrooms and porta-potties, picnic tables, grills, and fire rings. Leashed dogs are welcome in the park (though not in the main swimming area), and alcohol isn't permitted.

Pack your swimsuit, some cash, a cooler, and a picnic, and plan to make a relaxed day of it. With its clear, cool water and easygoing family atmosphere, Blue Hole Park is a quintessential Oklahoma summer escape — the kind of simple, spring-fed swimming hole that keeps families coming back year after year.
