Verdugo Skate Park is a well-designed, free public park run by the City of Glendale, and a genuine standout for transition skaters. Opened in 2004 and covering about 15,000 square feet of concrete, it packs a bunch of quality bowls and street terrain into a compact, flowing footprint at Verdugo Park.
The bowl selection is the draw: a clover bowl running 6 to 9 feet deep with an 11-foot over-vert section for the fearless, plus a 6-to-10-foot kidney pool. There's also a snake run that empties into a 9-foot bowl complete with a “loveseat,” and a street plaza with rails and ledges for the tech crowd. It's a park that rewards carving and speed.
Helmets, kneepads, and elbow pads are mandatory for skaters and inline skaters alike, and the park is skate-only — BMX bikes, scooters, and other coasting devices aren't allowed. The city even offers skate classes throughout the year.
It's free and open to the public. Gear up and enjoy one of the better bowl parks in the L.A. area, tucked against the Verdugo Mountains.
