Lakeview Beach is the North Shore swimming beach at Moraine State Park, a 16,725-acre park run by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) in Butler County, about three miles northeast of Portersville. The beach sits on Lake Arthur, a 3,225-acre reservoir with 42 miles of shoreline that formed when Muddy Creek was dammed in the late 1960s. The lake reached full pool in 1970, the same year the park was dedicated. DCNR lists Lakeview as a 656-foot sand beach, and it is the longer of the park's two designated swim areas. The other is Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore.
From US 422, take the North Shore exit and follow North Shore Drive west toward the Lakeview Day Use Area, then turn onto Lakeview Beach Road. DCNR puts the beach concession about five miles from the highway. Several paved lots sit along Lakeview Beach Road just uphill from the sand, with a lawn and rows of picnic tables between the parking and the water. Flush restrooms at the Lakeview Beach area are listed as ADA accessible.
The swim area is a strip of sand facing south across the main body of the lake, with Barber Point to the east. Showers, changing rooms and a snack bar are on site. DCNR opens the beach daily from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day unless posted otherwise, 8 a.m. to sunset. The snack bar runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Wednesday through Sunday, and is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The park's own wording is swim at your own risk, so plan on no lifeguards. DCNR does not publish a water depth or temperature for the swim area, so wade in and check the bottom before letting kids range out.
Pennsylvania state parks do not charge an entrance fee, and there is no beach or parking fee at Lakeview, so a day here is free. Pets are banned from the beach area. Smoking and vaping are banned on the sand and in the water, though there are designated areas next to the beach. Outside the beach season the park stays open sunrise to sunset, and day use areas close at dusk.
Lake Arthur is a busy boating lake. Motors are capped at 20 horsepower, and motorboats, sailboats, kayaks and paddleboards share the water, so stay inside the swim area. Barber Point, next to the beach, is a favorite windsurfing spot because it catches stronger wind, which also means more chop at Lakeview on breezy afternoons. Cell service around the park is spotty, so download the park map before you go. No closure or advisory for Lakeview Beach turned up when this was written in October 2026. Check the park's alerts page or call the office at 724-368-8811 before a trip, especially early in the season.
Lakeview is the North Shore's main day use area. An 18-hole disc golf course runs through the Lakeview Day Use Area. The Davis Hollow Marina office, also on the North Shore, handles marina slips and launch permits from April 15 to October 30. Kayaks and canoes can go in at any of the park's nine public boat launches with a launch permit or boat registration, and the park's hiking trails wind through the wooded hills around the lake. If you want grass instead of sand, a playground and a volleyball court, Pleasant Valley Beach on the South Shore is the other option.
