Channel Street Skatepark is a legendary DIY park in San Pedro, built by hand by local skaters in the early 2000s in the shadows beneath the Harbor (110) Freeway. What began as a renegade, unpermitted patch of hand-poured concrete grew into a beloved community landmark — a maze of transitions, bowls, and pockets shaped by the skaters who ride it.

Its story is one of the best in skateboarding. After roughly a decade of underground existence, the park was closed in 2014 when Caltrans began freeway work. Rather than let it die, the community rallied: through years of effort, the San Pedro Skatepark Association won a permit and a land agreement from the City of Los Angeles, and in 2022 Channel Street celebrated a grand reopening as a fully legal, official skatepark.

Today it remains 100% volunteer-built and community-maintained, hosting events, mural projects, and cleanups, and it's free to skate. The under-the-freeway setting keeps it shaded and rideable even when it's hot — a rare all-weather perk.

It's a true skater's park with gnarly, organic transitions rather than manicured street features, so it rewards riders comfortable on transition. Bring a helmet and pads, respect the local crew and the space they built, and pitch in if there's a work day on.

This location is under the Channel Street Exit off of the 110 freeway in San Pedro. It has a huge parking lot and is a park and ride for carpoolers. These guys have always built ramps and rails down here and a few years ago they decided to pour some cement and see how the city felt about it. The city of San Pedro was stoked! The are behind the project 100% and are happy with the process so this park is here to stay so it is time to expand! Courtesy of skatepark.com
