Canoe, Kayak, and Swim

Enatai Beach Park is a City of Bellevue park of almost three acres on the east shore of Lake Washington, at 3519 108th Avenue SE in Bellevue's Enatai neighborhood. It sits right under the I-90 East Channel Bridge, where the lake narrows between Bellevue and Mercer Island, and it is the closest public lake access to the mouth of Mercer Slough. Bellevue Parks and Community Services runs it as one of six city beach parks on Lake Washington with a designated swim area.

To get there, follow Bellevue Way south and turn onto 108th Avenue SE, which dead-ends at the park beneath the freeway. The parking lot is under the bridge deck and holds a limited number of cars, so on hot weekends expect to use nearby street parking or come by bike on the I-90 Trail, which passes just above the park. A stairway drops from the parking level to the waterfront plaza, boathouse and beach. Entry is free, there is no parking fee, and the park is open from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset.

The swim beach is a short stretch of sand south of the bridge, with a roped swim area and a wooden swim dock that runs out into the lake. The beach is sand and the water stays shallow near shore, getting deeper toward the end of the dock and the buoy line. This is lake water with no real current, but it is cold early in the summer, and wakes from boats in the East Channel can reach the beach. In 2026 the city staffed lifeguards here daily from noon to 7 p.m. between July 4 and August 16. Outside those dates and hours you swim on your own. There are restrooms, a beach shower, drinking water, a playground for younger and older kids, and picnic tables on a patio with pergolas with a view down the lake.

Water quality is the main thing to check before you go. Public Health Seattle and King County samples this beach for bacteria from mid-May through September, and the city has closed the swim area several times for high counts, including two closures in July 2020 and a nine-day closure that ended July 7, 2023. The rest of the park stays open during those closures. Weekly results and water temperatures are posted on King County's lake swimming beach page, and closures also go up on Bellevue's Beach Parks with Lifeguards page. The county's general advice is to stay out of the water for a day after heavy rain.

As of October 2026 the waterfront is closed for construction. King County's North Mercer Island/Enatai Sewer Upgrade runs through this park, and starting October 5, 2026 its contractor began work to reline the sewer pipe along the shoreline toward Sweyolocken Boat Launch. The swim beach, boathouse, playground and dock are closed to the public while that work goes on, picnic rentals are paused, and no reopening date had been published. Call the county project hotline at 425-305-3578 or check the project page before planning a visit.

Outside the swim area, Enatai is a designated launch for non-motorized boats, and paddlers use it to reach the quiet water trails of Mercer Slough Nature Park just to the east. The city contracts the boathouse to Best Kayak Rentals, which currently uses this location for guided tours and private events rather than walk-up rentals. There is also a fishing pier and a small viewing deck under the bridge.
