Canoe, Kayak, and Swim

Medina Beach Park is a 1.44 acre community park on the Lake Washington shoreline at the south point of Evergreen Point Road, owned and operated by the City of Medina. The address is 501 Evergreen Point Road, and the same small parcel also holds Medina City Hall and the police station, so the lawn above the beach rises to a civic building rather than to a parking lot. The site has a long history as a crossing point. It was the terminal for the Leschi ferry that connected Medina with Seattle, and the north half of the property was given to the city by the Medina Improvement Club in 1960.

The swim area is small and deliberately sheltered. The city describes roughly 50 feet of sandy beach with walk-in access to the water. A low stone breakwater runs out from shore on the north side, knocking down chop that comes across the open lake and defining the protected pocket where most people swim. A float is anchored offshore beyond the breakwater for swimmers who want something to reach, and a wooden pier plus a separate floating dock extend over deeper water. The entry is sand and fine gravel, and the grade is gentle enough for small children to wade.

Lifeguard coverage is the one fact worth checking before a trip, because the sources disagree. For the 2026 season King County lists Medina Beach Park as guarded from June 29 through August 30, daily from noon to 6 pm, with loaner life jackets available on site. The city park page describes coverage more loosely as the summer months of July and August, and Medina's own Parks and Open Space Element states the policy as Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Call Medina Public Works at 425-233-6400 before counting on a guard being present on any particular day.

The city does not publish an entry fee or a parking fee for this park, and none of the agency sources list one. Parking is on site and limited, since the same lot serves City Hall and the police station along with beach visitors. Public restrooms and a drinking fountain are available, plus picnic tables and a number of benches set along the shoreline path. The city facility inventory records no playground, no sports field, no tennis court and no walking trails here, which keeps the park considerably quieter than the larger Bellevue and Kirkland beaches a few minutes away.

Paddlers use the sand and the dock to hand launch kayaks and paddle boards. The Washington Water Trails Association lists the site as a sand beach launch with year round access and no lockable boat rack. Boat wakes are the specific hazard the city names in its own planning document: power boats running too close to shore push wakes into the swim area, and the city calls out maintaining the park to protect swimmers as a result.

Water quality deserves a plain note. King County Public Health and the King County Environmental Lab sample many Lake Washington swim beaches for E. coli and toxic algae from mid May through mid September, but Medina Beach Park is not among the beaches on that monitored list, so no bacteria result is posted for this specific shoreline. Posted daily park hours could not be confirmed from any City of Medina source, and the city notes that the City Hall emergency generator and its enclosure currently intrude into what was formerly park area.
