Outstanding easy hike and lots of swimming places for the whole family. This trail follows Richland Creek in the Laurel-Snow State Natural Area which has a number of small falls and swimming holes all along its length - no long hike required. The trail leads to a fork with trails to Laurel Falls and Snow Falls - there is swimming at both falls. Link to more information: LINK .

I received this description from a fan: "Richland Creek is better known as the Laurel-Snow Pocket Wilderness area. Beautiful country. Some of the best in Tennessee. Boulders the size of houses. Was a coal mine. There are still 20-30 old coke ovens to explore along with a 25 yard (maybe) deep mine you can still go in. It was safe enough but don't go into where any water is and look out for bats. There are also very good sites to climb and rappel. There are a few good swimming holes along the trail. The first most popular... more family oriented has a waterfall. Go down the hill where the old bridge was. The old bridge is past the stump. There are places to wade as well as dive. The next hole can be seen from the first. It is a big slab of rock about 10 ft high. It is the party area. People jump from that rock slab into the deep water. Up a bit more there is a natural levy on the river. Very nice place and not many people venture that far up stream. The areas around the popular hang out are not very clean so we always bring trash bags. Some to use, some to leave. The land is now owned by the Bowater Co. They allow camping with permission. "

This from a visitor in 2010:" At various points along the main trail there are several creeks entering Richland Creek that have good holes. Approximately .5 mile on the main trail and across Richlands Creek you can...Courtesy of swimmingholes.org
