Hike, Kayak, Swim, and Whitewater

The Tellico River is the home of the Baby Falls waterfall/swimming hole. Although it is beautiful at all times of the year, fall has been said to be one of the most beautiful and favorite times for all to enjoy, especially if you love to take photos. In the summer, picnicking and swimming are favorite activities for all ages. If you are looking for a place to kayak, hike, or swim then this is the place you would want to be. The beautiful river and waterfall are a favorite for experienced kayakers, all level hikers, and those who love to be outside.

If you are interested in kayaking, be cautious and evaluate your skill level and equipment before you begin the epic ride through the river. It takes about 1-3 hours to kayak through the river, and Baby Falls waterfall has been said to give you a good “beginners experience” and is fairly safe at all water levels.

Hiking here is an adventure, and most enjoy hiking in the actual river. Be aware that the rocks around you may have slippery moss on them so watch your step, and wear appropriate gear that can get wet.

While visiting Baby Falls you will be happy to discover that this area has two "pools". The upper pool has more shallow water that you can sit in and enjoy the sun while still remaining cool. Off to the side in the upper pool, you will find a smooth patch on the rocks that allows you to slide down the waterfall from upper pool to lower pool! The lower pool is deep enough to allow you to slide in without injury, and here you can cool off, enjoy the sun, and play pool games with your friends and family!

Instead of swimming you can sunbathe and observe on the large, smoother rocks surrounding the entire pool. The rocks are an excellent place to enjoy a picnic, or to place your belongings while splashing in the water. The lush green trees offer not only beauty and a sense of cover from the rest of the world, but also shade to keep you from getting too hot.

Baby Falls is an excellent place to spend an afternoon exploring. You won't want to miss it!

Be courteous, informed, and prepared. Read trailhead guidelines, stay on the trail, and don't feed the wildlife.
