Skateboard

Skateboarding has been part of the Seattle Center campus since the 1990s, when the beloved street course known as SeaSk8 drew riders from across the city. That original park was removed during the center's redevelopment, but the tradition lives on: it has been reborn as the Seattle Center Skate Plaza, a free public skatepark on the same iconic grounds beneath the Space Needle.

Designed with New Line and built by Grindline Skateparks — a Seattle institution — in partnership with Seattle Center, Skate Like A Girl, and the local skate coalition, the plaza is a street-style space built to welcome newer skaters while still giving experienced riders ledges, banks, and lines to work. In a nice touch of continuity, artist Perri Howard's original SeaSk8 artwork, including a signature glass wallride, was reinstalled at the new location.

You'll find it right on the Seattle Center campus, walkable from the Space Needle, Chihuly Garden and Glass, and the monorail — an easy add-on to a day exploring one of Seattle's most famous public spaces. It's free and open to the public.

Bring a helmet and pads, expect company on dry days, and check Seattle Center's site for event closures on the busy campus.

More Information

Seattle Center Skate Plaza

The new skate plaza was designed by VDZ+A and New Line Skateparks and built by Grindline Skateparks. The team worked in close partnership with Seattle Center, Skate Like A Girl and the Seattle Center Skatepark Coalition to plan a new facility that adds variety to our citywide skatepark network. This project transformed a former road (Broad St.) into an active community space.
