Lake Mansfield Beach is the town swimming beach of Great Barrington, Massachusetts, on the east shore of Lake Mansfield (listed by the USGS as Mansfield Pond). The beach is part of the Lake Mansfield Recreation Area and Conservation Forest, which the Town of Great Barrington owns and runs through its Parks and Conservation commissions. The lake covers about 29 acres and sits in a wooded bowl on the north side of town, roughly two thirds of a mile from the Main Street business district, close enough that plenty of people walk over from downtown.

For years Lake Mansfield Road ran right along the shoreline and was slowly sliding into the lake. Town Meeting voted in 2020 to close it to cars, and the town used two state climate resilience grants to rebuild the corridor, with construction running from late 2023 through 2024. The lakeside stretch is now a recreation path for walkers and cyclists, the beach parking lot was enlarged, and rain gardens were added to keep runoff out of the water. Drivers reach the beach lot from the north end, off Christian Hill Road. Parking is free and no town permit or resident sticker is needed to use the beach.

The swim area is a modest sandy beach, backed by a larger grassy lawn with picnic tables, grills, swings and a playground. There is an outdoor changing area, and portable toilets are set out in summer. Lifeguards are supplied through Berkshire South Regional Community Center during the summer season, roughly Memorial Day to Labor Day, but coverage depends on staffing. Late in some seasons the town has cut guard coverage to a few dates, leaving the beach open with no lifeguard and swimming at your own risk. Check the town's notices before counting on a guard, and watch children closely when the chair is empty.

Water quality is the main thing to watch here. The town tests the beach through the summer, and it closes the waterfront when bacteria counts come back high. In July 2024, just weeks after the beach reopened following the construction work, the Health Department shut it to swimmers for a week after testing found elevated E. coli; it reopened on July 31 once results were back to safe levels. The town announces closures and reopenings in its news notices, so look there before a trip in a hot, rainy stretch of summer. Dogs are not allowed on the beach or lawn.

The lake is small, quiet water used mostly by kayaks, canoes and paddleboards, which put in at a town ramp at the south end of the lake off Knob Hill Road, with its own parking. Dogs can cool off there. A loop around the shoreline by boat is about a mile. Anglers fish from shore and from boats for bass, pickerel, perch and bullhead, and trout are stocked each spring. Behind the beach, the Conservation Forest has a broad main trail of about a third of a mile with a boardwalk over the outlet brook, plus a forest loop of similar length, much of it built with a crushed stone surface and gentle grades. Leashed dogs are allowed on the trails, and the path network links to River Walk and downtown for a walking loop of about three and a half miles.
