Mash Fork Falls

Camp Creek, West Virginia

1.9 miles W of Camp Creek, West Virginia

Mash Fork Falls is a beautiful little waterfall flowing in Camp Creek, West Virginia. Although it is not particularly large, it is beautiful and powerful in it's own unique ways.

Mash Fork Falls is a little waterfall about 7 feet tall. Yes it is small, but it is beautiful nonetheless as it plunges through sandstone creating a scenic waterfall. It can be admired from a viewing platform off to the side. This waterfall is at it's best in the spring or early summer when the flow of the water is stronger and more powerful from the melting snow.

This waterfall rests inside Camp Creek State Park which is known for marvelous camping. Trails are all around the park and are accessible to you on foot or on mountain bikes. The trails are well kept, and range in their difficulty levels. The park also has fantastic fishing in the rivers around it and is surrounded by lush trees and other greenery. Tent camping is the only kind of camping allowed at The Bluejay Campground, and it costs 15$ per night.

Campbell Falls is one of the many waterfalls resting in Camp Creek, West Virginia. Campbell Falls is 15 feet tall and 40 feet wide (depending on water levels), and powerful. The flow of the water is the strongest after a heavy rain, and the falls itself is most beautiful in the springtime. Campbell Falls has a trail off to the side where the waterfall can be from the side, or the falls can be viewed from the front as you reach the end of the main trail. Large, flat rocks surround the falls and make the perfect perch for you to sit on and take in the beauty of the trees and the powerful water.

Brush Creek Falls

Athens, West Virginia

3.9 miles NW of Athens, West Virginia

Brush Creek Falls is a beautiful waterfall in Brush Creek Nature Preserve. This is a popular location for photographers and nature lovers, as the waterfall makes a perfect backdrop for a gorgeous long-exposure photo. The large trees surrounding the waterfall provide shade, and block out all the noise from the outside world. The hike to the waterfall itself is very short, not even a full mile, making this a great place for you if you are looking to get a small amount of exercise or take your small children on a nice nature walk. Brush Creek is open all year long but the waterfall is at its most powerful after rainstorms due to larger amounts of water. You can play in the water that the falls drains into, however the water isn't deep enough to do any real swimming.

Unfortunately the downside of this spot, is that it is also a popular party spot and can be littered with trash (mostly beer cans).

Many other falls surround Brush Creek. Mash Fork Falls, Campbell Falls, and others are all near here, and most have short hikes as well.

Pool Point

Elkhorn City, Kentucky

1.6 miles SE of Elkhorn City, Kentucky

Pool Point is a popular and adventurous swimming spot in Breaks Interstate Park. Here there is a sandy beach, and a long rope swing for jumping in the water. This spot is famous for the train bridge that crosses high above the river, and for the beautiful cliffs that surround this spot. The water here is 25 feet deep in places, making it a popular spot for cliff diving and bridge diving.

Breaks Interstate Park requires a $2 entry fee per vehicle. This entry fee gives access to the entire park and all its hiking, swimming, floating and diving adventures.

Rock Spring

Apopka, Florida

4.8 miles NE of Apopka, Florida

Swim and tube. IS SOMETIMES CLOSED DUE TO BACTERIAL COUNT FROM ANIMALS. This from a visitor:” I just wanted to say that it is a great place to swim. Very popular with the locals and visitors. My grandparents swam there when they were young. I just wanted to let you know that it is a great place to swim and it is very clean and has a nice campground. Tubing is popular and the run starts at the cave to the right of the parking lot. The cave is barred for no entry. The water is deceptively clear...the water deeper than it looks. But cold, fresh and wonderful on a hot Florida day. The inner tubes can be rented outside the park at a couple of gas stations for a pretty cheap amount. Or you can take your own. The current is lazy, but strong enough to propel you downstream without having to kick your feet. There is a clean kiddie beach in a shallow part that is away from the diving and tubing."

Mule Hollow

Elkins, West Virginia

10.1 miles SE of Elkins, West Virginia

Mule Hollow is a more private swimming hole just outside of Bemis. The swimming hole itself is located in Shaver's Fork river, and is a deep pool with little current from the river felt as you swim in it. There are large, flat rocks surrounding the pool that are perfect to get some sun on or place your personal items. To get to Mule Hollow, you have to walk along some train tracks. These tracks may have nails, or other sharp objects poking out or around it so wear sturdy shoes to prevent injury. You will walk on these tracks for about a mile. Because this area is a little more obscure and difficult to get to, it doesn't get as many visitors which makes it the perfect place for you to go if you don't enjoy lots of shouting and just want to enjoy the nature around you. A large rock hangs over the pool that you can swim underneath to get some cover from the warm sun. This area is best during the summer time, specifically in July. The water is refreshing and warm from the sun rays. Make sure to bring sunscreen and water with you!

High Falls

Elkins West, Virginia

13.2 miles S of Elkins West, Virginia

High falls is a beautiful waterfall located in West Virginia, and is a popular hike with a spectacular location. The hike is about 7 and a half miles long and takes a little over 4 hours. The trail is also a great place for mountain biking, and is marked as moderate for both hiking and biking. Some people like to backpack and camp near the waterfall overnight, but it isn't an amazing place to camp because your sleep will be disrupted consistently by passing trains. If you want to see the waterfall and swim there but don't want to hike, you can take the train in Bemis. It costs about 10 dollars for a round trip to and from Bemis to High Falls and the journey has one small stop in the middle for about 45 minutes. Many tourists choose to hike and take the train as this is a popular location. The best part about the hike is that you can cool off in the water below the waterfall and have a relaxing swim. This would be a great place for you if you like to get up early in the morning, hike, swim and eat lunch before hiking back down.

Trigger Gap

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

7.2 miles SE of Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Kings River is the perfect place for you if you love to kayak. Trigger gap is fairly mild and calm, a great place for a beginner to kayak. You can rent supplies like canoes, kayaks, fishing kayaks, rafts, and paddle boards at Trigger Gap Outfitters. The prices for these range between 30-80$. You can even park at the canoe rental office for $3. This area is probably best for doing those kind of activities but it's also open to swimmers. The water is cool and clear all year long, but summer is the best time for swimming because the sun warms the water, and keeps you warm as you rest on the bank. An old bridge used to run across the river right near Trigger Gap Outfitters store. The water current where the bridge once was is more strong, so keep careful watch over your children and less experienced swimmers here. There isn't said to be anywhere specific that the water is best for swimming, the calm water near the store is probably the best because you don't have to be a strong swimmer, and don't have to be as watchful of everyone in the water (still watch though!). The banks surrounding Trigger gap are a great place to relax, collect cool rocks, or tan in the sun.

The Cliffs at Beaver Lake

Larue, Arkansas

0.9 miles NE of Larue, Arkansas

The Cliffs at Beaver Lake are a popular destination for swimmers and cliff jumpers in Arkansas. This colorful section of cliffs provide stunning contrast to the blue green water of Beaver Lake. The lake is surrounded by towering ceder trees that bring a beautiful lush green to the space.  The water is clear, cool and deep here. Jumpers can enjoy the thrill of adventure in this uniquely beautiful location. Swimmers and divers should check safety and have experiences before diving. Diving is done at your own risk.

These unique formations can also be views and explored underneath using kayaks and canoes. The lake has wide open areas that are great for exploring and getting a good work out. Kayaking along the entire bluff is five miles round trip. The whole multi hour adventure provides a view of small waterfalls and many tree topped cliffs and rock formations. Hogscald Hollow

Eureka Springs, Arkansas

7.8 miles SW of Eureka Springs, Arkansas

Hogscald Hollow is an epic swimming hole. If you are the kind of person who gets restless as soon as it's started to just barely warm up, and you begin itching for adventure the moment it hits temperatures above 60 degrees outside, Hogscald Hollow is the place for you. It is said to be at it's most beautiful and most appealing in the spring, it is open all summer as well though. The journey may be a little difficult to reach Hogscald Hollow-but it is worth the adventure! Make sure that you have a car that will be okay on gravel roads, and start your trip! A few miles into the dirt road you can stop and jump from Lover's Leap into Beaver Lake. With a 50 foot drop to the water below, it is the perfect jump for an adrenaline junkie.

Parking is a little tricky here, the dirt road ends ubruptly. You'll be able to tell you've arrived once you see the other cars-or if you are the first to arrive you'll be able to tell because the road will look as if it has suddenly ended and you'll find your car right at the edge of the lake. Off to the left side of where you park your car there are walking trails. You can swim anywhere along the trail but the best place to swim is about a quarter mile hike away from the parking area. The area has small "cliffs" that are 10 feet tall, perfect for jumping off of. Many people like to boat in this general area so it is recommended that spring, and early fall are best for swimming and midsummer is best for boating. If you are looking to boat, kayaks, and canoes are best here because you will have to carry your load to the water as there is no boat launch.

"From Eureka Springs, take RT 23 south about 8 miles, turn west (right) on RT 108 for about .5 miles then turn south (left) at the first left on RT 148 and proceed down this dirt road quite a ways...Keep on driving to the end of the road...it dead ends right into the lake. Take the walking trails off to the left."

Yacolt, Washington

The waterfall is majestic and is at it's most beautiful from April-August, with the water levels going down in September. The lower pool that the waterfall drains into is large, and gets deeper as you head toward the middle. Try to remain close to the land if you aren't a good swimmer.

Large smooth rocks surround the waterfall and are the perfect place to watch over your swimmers, place your belongings, sunbathe, and have a picnic.

Although it is a little harder to access in the winter, it is still open, so if you are determined to see the Falls, then you will still be able to go and explore, just make sure to dress warm!
