Mountain Bike
Chocolate Gulch (Trail #312) is a scenic, approachable ride in the hills north of Ketchum and Sun Valley, tucked into the sagebrush and aspen of the Sawtooth National Recreation Area. It's a favorite for a mellow spin or as a building block in a longer day, easily linked with the surrounding network of North Valley trails.
The trail rolls through classic central-Idaho high country, with wildflowers coloring the slopes in early summer and open views out to the Boulder Mountains. It's not a punishing climb or a white-knuckle descent — the appeal is the flow, the scenery, and the quiet — which makes it a great pick for intermediate riders or anyone who'd rather enjoy the surroundings than suffer for them.
To ride it as a loop, the Fox Creek Trailhead is the best starting point, and connectors let you stitch Chocolate Gulch into nearby trails for extra mileage. The neighboring Harriman Trail and other North Valley routes make it easy to build a custom day out.
Summer through early fall is prime time; carry water and sun protection, watch for other trail users, and keep an eye on the afternoon thunderstorms that can roll over the high peaks.
