Mountain Bike
Saddle Trail (#326) is a fun intermediate mountain-bike ride in the Sawtooth National Forest above Ketchum and Sun Valley, Idaho — and a smart pick when the summer sun is blazing. Unlike many of the exposed trails in the area, Saddle stays cool and shaded, threading through groves of aspen and pine for most of its length.
The trail is relatively smooth and flowing, letting riders carry good speed as they wind through the trees. That combination of shade, flow, and a manageable difficulty makes it a favorite for intermediate riders and a refreshing option on hot afternoons when the sunnier North Valley trails bake.
Like the rest of the Sun Valley trail network, Saddle links easily with neighboring routes if you want to build a longer day out. Summer through early fall is prime season.
Bring water and watch for other trail users, and keep an eye out for the afternoon thunderstorms that can build over the surrounding peaks.
