Coes Pond Beach, officially the John J. Binienda Memorial Beach and often shortened to Binienda Beach, is a City of Worcester swimming beach on the western shore of Coes Reservoir, the pond most locals simply call Coes Pond. The city named it for the late State Representative John J. Binienda. It is run by the Department of Parks, Recreation and Cemetery as one of Worcester's four municipal beaches, and the reservoir sits at the headwaters of the Blackstone River in a dense west side neighborhood a little over 3 km from downtown.

The beach address is 180 Mill Street, and Mill Street runs right along the shore above the sand. The city lists a parking lot for the Coes Pond parks, and the Coes Park lot off Coes Street at the south end of the pond is a short walk away along the East-West Trail. The Major Taylor Bike Trail passes the pond on Mill Street, so riding in is a realistic option. There is no gate and no admission charge on any city page; the beach is listed as open to the public.

The swim area is a sandy beach with a bathhouse and a marked swimming zone. In recent summers the city has staffed its beaches from about the end of June to late August, seven days a week from noon to 7 p.m., with lifeguards supplied through a partnership with the YMCA of Central Massachusetts. The YMCA also gives free swim lessons here during the season. Outside those dates and hours there is no lifeguard on duty. The city does not publish depth figures for the swim area, and as a shallow urban pond the water warms up quickly by mid summer.

Water quality is the main thing to check before you go. The city tests Coes Reservoir for E. coli and cyanobacteria and closes the beach when results come back high, and that happens often. The reservoir has closed more than once in a single summer for cyanobacteria. It has also closed for E. coli and for blue-green algae scum in past summers. The pond also gets occasional one-day closures for invasive plant treatment, during which the city also asks people not to use the water for irrigation. The city posts closures on its announcements page and on its Lakes and Ponds Program page.

Paddling is a big part of the draw. The parks department runs a free kayak and paddleboard rental program at the beach, operated by the YMCA, on weekends from Memorial Day and then daily during the staffed season. Private non-motorized boats can launch informally at the beach or at the end of Circuit Avenue North. The reservoir is stocked with trout each year and is a popular local fishing spot.

Around the water there are roughly 5 miles of trails linking the beach to Columbus Park on the east shore, with its boardwalk, and to the Knights of Columbus park and Reed Memorial field. At the south end, Coes Park sits on the old Coes Knife factory site, where the Coes brothers made the monkey wrench. It has a fully accessible playground, a sledding hill and the historic Stearns Tavern, which now houses a cafe run by the Seven Hills Foundation.
