Walla Walla Point Park
Wenatchee
Hike and Swim
Walla Walla Point Park is a 70-acre day-use park on the west bank of the Columbia River in north Wenatchee, just downstream of where the Wenatchee River comes in. Chelan County PUD built it and still runs it as part of the federal license for Rock Island Dam, so the water here is technically Rock Island Pool, the reservoir behind that dam. The park joins Wenatchee Riverfront Park to the south, and the Apple Capital Loop Trail runs straight through it.
The entrance is at 1351 Walla Walla Ave. From North Wenatchee Avenue, work east toward the river on Miller Street to Walla Walla Avenue, then follow the park road in. The swim area sits at the north end of the park, past the sports courts and playground, so use the north parking lots by the ball fields rather than the Linden Tree lot at the south end. If you're already on the Loop Trail on foot or bike, you'll ride right past it.
The PUD's own park map marks one designated swim area, and it's a small cove tucked behind the main shoreline near the footbridge, off the river's main channel. A gravel and small-cobble beach slopes into the water next to a long lawn with picnic tables and shade trees, and the cove is sheltered from the main current. The bottom is rocky, so water shoes help. The water is the Columbia itself, released from the dams upstream, and it stays cold well into summer. The PUD posts current water temperature at Rock Island Dam on its river conditions page if you want a number before you go. The park page doesn't mention lifeguards, so plan on swimming on your own.
There is no entry or parking fee. The park is open year-round from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Picnic shelters run April 1 to October 1 and can be reserved through the PUD by calling (509) 661-4551 on weekdays. The free PUD day-use pass and the Discover Pass you may have heard about cover the nearby state-run parks such as Wenatchee Confluence, not this one.
Stay inside the cove. Outside it the Columbia is wide and moving, with real current and cold water that wears swimmers down fast, and the Wenatchee River enters just upstream. River levels behind Rock Island Dam shift a few feet with dam operations. Rules for all PUD parks, including this one, are posted on the PUD website. A 2024 and 2025 PUD project rebuilt the basketball court, added an accessible trail from the south parking lot and resurfaced the north lot, so expect the layout to look newer than older photos.
The rest of the park is busy with ball fields lit for night games, pickleball and tennis courts, volleyball, horseshoe pits, a playground, restrooms and an ADA fishing pier. About 1.2 miles of trail loop through it, and the 10-mile Apple Capital Loop Trail continues north across the Wenatchee River to Wenatchee Confluence State Park and south along the riverfront into downtown.
