Carlson Skatepark is a sprawling concrete skatepark in Keizer, Oregon, just north of Salem in the Willamette Valley — and at around 21,600 square feet, it's one of the largest outdoor concrete skateparks on the West Coast. Big, varied, and free to skate, it's a must-visit for anyone touring Oregon's deep bench of great parks.
The park's scale is its calling card, with room to skate for hours across multiple bowls, a halfpipe, and a wide spread of transition and street terrain. In recent years it was refreshed by Dreamland Skateparks — the crew descended from Portland's legendary Burnside park — who smoothed out older surfaces for a faster, better ride and rebuilt some of the most worn areas, including the bowls and the halfpipe. The result is a huge, flowing complex with something for every style, from mellow cruising to deep-bowl carving.
As a free public facility (officially the Carlson / Chalmers Jones skate park), it's a lively community hub for the mid-valley skate scene. As always, gear up with a helmet and pads, be courteous and take turns, bring water, and check for any posted hours or closures. For sheer size and variety, Carlson is one of Oregon's premier public parks.
