Pier Park Skatepark is one of Portland, Oregon's most celebrated skateparks, a big, advanced concrete park set in leafy Pier Park in the St. Johns neighborhood of North Portland. Built by the legendary Dreamland Skateparks and spanning about 11,500 square feet, it's widely considered one of the best parks in a city famous for great concrete — a bucket-list session for serious transition skaters.

The park's crown jewel is a full 18-foot pipe with a “mouse hole” entryway, flanked on either side by deep bowls topped with tile and pool coping. Two huge flow bowls fill the center of the park, giving skaters endless lines to carve and pump, while a street section on the far side offers rails, ledges, boxes, and stairs for those who prefer to grind and flip. It's a demanding, world-class layout that rewards experience, though there's fun to be found for a range of skill levels.

Tucked among tall firs, it's a beautiful place to skate as well as a challenging one, and it's free and open to the public. As always, gear up with a helmet and pads (especially given the size of the terrain here), be courteous and take turns — this park draws a talented crowd — bring water, and check for any posted hours. For advanced skaters touring Portland, Pier Park is an absolute must-skate.
