Disc Golf
Jolley's Ranch is one of Utah's most beloved disc golf courses, an 18-hole layout tucked along Hobble Creek in the right fork of Hobble Creek Canyon above Springville. Its reputation is not a small thing: with an average rating of about 4.6 out of 5 across more than 2,400 community reviews, it sits comfortably among the highest-regarded courses in the state. Add a full campground, a creek running through it and canyon walls rising on both sides, and it's easy to see why players drive from all over the Wasatch Front to throw here.
The course itself is mostly flat and moderately wooded, which is a friendlier combination than the "moderate to hard" difficulty rating suggests. The trees are the challenge rather than the terrain, demanding controlled lines rather than raw distance, and they pay a real dividend in summer: most holes carry a good bit of shade, which makes this one of the few Utah courses genuinely pleasant to play in July. It's free to play, with no fee and no tee times, so you simply show up with your discs and start.
Jolley's is a Springville City canyon park, and the campground alongside makes it a proper destination rather than a quick round. There are 54 campsites open from May 1st through October 31st, each with a picnic table, barbecue stand and fire pit; all sites have water and most have power hookups. The grounds also hold three pavilions, restrooms, a picnic area, a playground and open play fields, which makes it a natural spot for family reunions, group outings and weekend camping with a course in the backyard.
Getting there is straightforward but worth writing down. From I-15, take exit 260 and head east into Springville through the traffic lights to the roundabout at 1300 East and Canyon Road, turn right onto Canyon Road, and continue about six miles up Hobble Creek Canyon. Go past the ball golf course, stay right at the split, and the entrance is roughly three-tenths of a mile further on the right, at 5984 Hobble Creek Canyon Road.
The canyon setting shapes the season. Summer and early fall are prime, with the campground open May through October and the shade making midsummer rounds comfortable. Hobble Creek Canyon sits at elevation, so nights run cold well into summer and the canyon can hold snow and mud into spring, which affects both the course and the drive up. The creek runs high and fast during spring runoff, worth noting if you have kids along.
Come with plenty of water, sun protection for the open holes, bug spray for the creek bottom, and a few extra discs, since the trees do collect them. Whether you're camping a weekend, playing a quick shaded round, or bringing the whole family up the canyon, Jolley's Ranch is about as good as free disc golf gets in Utah.
