Hike and Swim
Overall Run Falls is a challenging hike along one of Virginia's longest consecutively running waterfalls. Located in Shenandoah National Park, Overall Run Falls is accessible from Hogback Overlook and also from Overall Area itself.
Most hikers take the trail from Overall Area. This is a moderately difficult trail with a 1,291 foot elevation change. This trail takes four to five hours on average to hike and requires some climbing over larger rocks. This strenuous trail provides a challenging hike with views that are worth the work. Hikers should be prepared with food and water for the journey, as well as appropriate footwear. The trail crosses the water at several points and footwear should be water ready and protective.
Throughout the trail hikers can enjoy shade from the many surrounding trees and cool off in several spots long the river. There is a deeper swimming hole near the 93 foot waterfall, for which the trail got its name. Here the river widens and hikers can enjoy wading in the cool mountain water. Swimmers should be experienced and should check the safety of the water before entering.
The sweeping views of Shenandoah National Park and Overall Run Falls are breathtaking, making this hike worth every step.
