The Silver Lake Amphitheater is one of Eagle Mountain's most scenic gathering places, an outdoor venue and park set against a natural hillside on Pony Express Parkway, with sweeping views of the Wasatch Front and Utah Lake. Its tiered, general-admission lawn seating draws thousands for concerts, movie nights and community events through the warm months, but the same grassy hillside that seats the crowds has a delightful winter alter ego: once the snow falls, it becomes a favorite neighborhood sledding hill.
That dual purpose is exactly its charm. In summer the amphitheater's sloped lawn (with a capacity of around 6,000) hosts events beneath big Utah Valley sunsets; in winter, that broad, tiered slope turns into a fun, family-friendly sledding hill for the surrounding Eagle Mountain neighborhoods. The hill is fairly flat and straight, smaller on the north end and getting bigger as it runs south, giving a range of pitches for different ages and nerve levels.
The park around it makes for an easy family outing year-round. Beyond the amphitheater stage and lawn, there's a playground, a pavilion for barbecues, restrooms, a relaxing seating area, and a dog-friendly trail where leashed pups are welcome, all designed to be accessible to visitors of all abilities. That mix means a sledding afternoon comes with real amenities, a rarity for a neighborhood hill.
Standard sledding caution applies on the tiered lawn. The bigger south end runs faster, and the tiered seating contours mean the slope isn't perfectly smooth, so it's worth walking the hill first, steering younger kids to the gentler north end, checking the runout, and keeping an adult watching. Helmets are wise on the faster runs.
Winter depends on the snow, with the best sledding right after a fresh fall before the lawn packs slick; the rest of the year the amphitheater is a summer events venue and a scenic park for picnics and play. Its Pony Express Parkway location nods to the historic Pony Express Trail that runs through Eagle Mountain, adding a bit of local character to the setting.
Dress for the cold in waterproof layers and boots, bring your own sled or tube. For a free, scenic, amenity-rich sledding hill on a tiered amphitheater lawn with Wasatch and Utah Lake views, Silver Lake is one of Eagle Mountain's most enjoyable winter spots.
