Hike and Mountain Bike
Jacob's Ladder is the trail Wasatch Front locals name when they want to know who's serious. This steep, relentless route is the most popular way into the rugged Lone Peak Wilderness high above Draper and Alpine, and the classic approach to the summit of Lone Peak (11,253 ft), one of the most demanding peaks in the range.
The Jacob's Ladder segment itself runs about 3.6 miles and climbs roughly 2,550 feet, averaging a lung-searing 13% grade — there are few switchbacks and even fewer flat spots, but the way is clear and the granite scenery only gets better as you rise. Continuing to the summit of Lone Peak is a serious full-day objective, gaining around 5,650 feet from the trailhead. The lower stretch doubles as a legendary technical mountain-bike descent, so expect to share the dirt with riders.
Access is via Corner Canyon Road in Draper: from the Corner Canyon Gate (near 2000 E and 12600 S), continue about 2.6 miles up the dirt road to the signed trailhead, marked by a wooden fence. There's parking and a restroom at the trailhead — bring plenty of water, because there's little shade and no reliable source once you start climbing.
Come prepared with sturdy footwear, sun protection, and an early start, especially if you're pushing for the peak. Late spring through fall is the season; snow lingers high into summer.
