Eagle Point Park is a small, welcoming disc golf spot in Ammon, Idaho, just east of Idaho Falls, and it's built for exactly one thing: getting people started. Rather than a sprawling championship layout, it's a compact practice course designed so beginners, kids and anyone with a spare hour can throw a real round without the intimidation of a full-length course. For eastern Idaho families and new players, it's an ideal first stop.

The design is clever. The course plays nine holes out of just three baskets and three tees, with each basket played from each tee to make up the round. The baskets are colour-coded yellow, red and blue, and little arrows set into the cement tee pads point toward which basket you're aiming for, so there's no guesswork about where to throw. It's a genuinely thoughtful setup that solves the usual confusion of a practice course.

It plays short. The longest hole runs about 333 feet, and a typical round takes roughly an hour while covering only about seven-tenths of a mile of walking. That combination makes it approachable for kids, easy on the legs, and perfect for working on approach shots and putting rather than raw distance. Cement tee pads are a nice touch at this size of course.

To find it, head east on 17th past Ammon Road, cross the railroad tracks, and turn right on Eagles Homestead Drive. There's a playground nearby, which makes it easy to bring the whole family and let younger kids peel off while others finish the round. It's free to play with no check-in, so you show up with a couple of discs and go.

As a neighbourhood park, it comes with the usual shared-space courtesy: other users, walkers and kids on the playground move through, so a look downrange before letting a drive go is basic manners. The open Idaho Falls-area terrain means little shade and a fair bit of wind, which is its own kind of practice.

Spring through fall is the natural season, with eastern Idaho summers pleasant enough for a round at almost any hour and winter shutting things down under snow. Bring water, sun protection, and a putter and midrange more than a full bag, since distance isn't what this course asks for.
