Camp
Table Rock Campground is a large, quiet group campground tucked into a scenic little canyon of the Caribou-Targhee National Forest near the Kelly Canyon area, about 30 miles from Idaho Falls in eastern Idaho. Set in a grassy draw dotted with summer wildflowers and bordered by aspens and towering pines, it's built for gatherings: reunions, scout troops, church groups and big family outings that want room to spread out in the mountains without the crowds of a developed resort campground.
The defining feature is its scale. Table Rock is a group campground that can accommodate up to 200 people, which makes it a genuine destination for large parties rather than a spot for a solo overnight. Scattered picnic tables, campfire circles and grills serve the site, and accessible vault toilets are provided. It's a rustic setup: there's no electricity and no potable water, so groups need to plan to bring their own drinking water and be self-sufficient.
The setting rewards active groups. Hiking, mountain biking and ATV riding are all popular here, and the Hawley Gulch Trail begins right at the campground, offering an easy on-ramp to the surrounding hills for hikers, bikers and OHV riders alike. The open grassy meadow makes a natural gathering space, while the aspens and pines around the edges offer partial shade and a classic eastern Idaho mountain feel.
The nearby Kelly Canyon area adds options, from the ski hill in winter to the trails and the South Fork of the Snake River country in summer, so Table Rock works well as a base for a bigger weekend of activities.
Because there's no water or power and it sits at mountain elevation, this is a plan-ahead, bring-everything campground: pack in all your drinking water, be ready for cool nights even in midsummer, and confirm your group reservation ahead of time given the site's size and popularity. The access road is forest-grade and best driven with care.
Summer and early fall are the season, with wildflowers early and golden aspens later; the campground is a snow-country site that closes for winter. Come with all your water, layers for cool mountain nights, insect repellent for the meadow, and whatever gear your group's activities call for. For a large-group basecamp in a pretty forest meadow with a trailhead at the door, Table Rock is one of the better group-camping options near Idaho Falls.
