Fish Creek Campground is the second-largest campground in Glacier National Park and one of its most comfortable west-side bases, set in dense forest on the northwest shore of Lake McDonald about four miles from the West Entrance near West Glacier. It offers the quiet, shaded, lakeside feel of the west side while staying close to the park's main services at Apgar and along the Going-to-the-Sun Road.

With about 178 sites, including a number that can take RVs up to 35 feet, it is a developed front-country campground with flush toilets and drinking water, though there are no utility hookups. Sites have picnic tables, fire rings and bear-resistant food storage, and unlike the park's primitive campgrounds, Fish Creek is on the reservation system, so summer stays should be booked well in advance. It usually opens in early June and closes in early fall.

The campground sits just above Lake McDonald, with access to the shoreline for paddling, fishing and swimming in the park's largest lake and the classic view up the water toward the Continental Divide. From here it is a short drive to Apgar Village and the start of the Going-to-the-Sun Road, and the free park shuttle makes it easy to reach trailheads farther up the corridor without hunting for parking. Its size, setting and full facilities make Fish Creek a reliable, scenic choice for exploring the west side of the park.
